Katrina's impact felt in El Salvador

Hurricane Katrina's damage to the oil industry is having a serious impact on gasoline prices in El Salvador. Prices are rising by 70 cents per gallon in the country. Such a cost increase will again create pressure by the owners of bus companies to raise fares. A significant percentage of Salvadorans rely on the buses for their transportation, and attempted fare increases at the beginning of July led to violent protests.

You can be sure that there are Salvadorans in New Orleans who are in bad shape right now. I wonder how Manny and Isabel are doing... they had a restaurant called La Macarena that served absolutely perfect pupusas. They are in Kenner, so they might have escaped the worst of it. There is a restaurant closer to the heart of New Orleans called Taqueria Corona that is run by Salvadorans. I sure hope these folks are OK... I used to eat there at least once a week.
