Only in El Salvador

LOL. Lidieth Arevalo, a Salvadoran living in Southern California has produced this video, titled Solo en El Salvador -- Only in El Salvador, which takes a very humorous look at some sights you may see in daily life in El Salvador. This video is the third of a three part series, and I think it's the best of the three.

I'm not sure I see the humor in a video of inebriateds dancing to where they may hurt themselves, overloaded vehicles posing a danger to traffic or themselves, and public sanitation challenges, among other things.

BUT...it does allow a glimpse of the urban El Salvador, for those missing it.

Sadly, our friend John seems to be comparing apples and oranges, or should I say, papayas and zapotes.

El Salvador, like any other country, has its special uniqueness that we can certainly identify, exaggerate and smile at.

We can't expect that acceptable standards in one society to be those of another. I would hate to visit Timbuktu only to find every corner of the city occupied by a Kentucky Fried Chicken or a McDonald’s fast food joint.

I enjoyed the video in question; it brought back to life many humorous moments of my past visits to El Salvador and the countries of that area. "Viva la diferencia."

Best wishes.

Well.. that is the thing..John.. ONLY SALVADOREAN ppl could find the humor in it!.
I don not blame you in the sense of finding difficult to see or understand the humor.
But when there isn't a high standard of living as where I might think you are living.. ppl just manage or live within their means.
Nevertheless, I think the first one to be liable for this, it's the GOES government. the Law which in some cases isn't abided

And talking about Southern California, here are some statistics from a major paper out there regarding immigrants from South of our border:

Statistics from Los Angeles County

-40% of all workers in L.A. Country are working for cash and not paying any taxes whatsoever. This is because they are predominantly illegal immigrants working without a Green Card.

-95% of warrants for murder in Los Angeles are for illegal aliens.

-75% of people on the Most Wanted list in Los Angeles are illegal aliens.

-More than two thirds of all births in Los Angeles County are to illegal alien Mexicans on Medi-Cal, whose births were paid for the tax payers.

-Nearly 35% of all inmates in California detention centers are Mexican nationals here illegally.

-More than 300,000 illegal aliens in Los Angeles County are living in garages.

-The FBI reports that half of all gang members in Los Angeles are illegal aliens from south of the border.

-60% of all occupants of HUD properties are illegal aliens.

-Twenty one radio stations in Los Angeles are Spanish speaking. In Los Angeles Country 5.1 million people speak English and 3.9 million speak Spanish. There are currently 10.2 million people in Los Angeles County.

-Less than 2% of illegal aliens are picking our crops, but 29% are on welfare.

-Over 70% of the United States' annual population growth (and over 90% of California, Florida, and New York) results from immigration.

Some refer to this immigration phenomenon as "La Reconquista."

We're clearly becoming Third World because the Third World is coming to us; nost sneaking in through our pourous border and they keep on coming.

For what it's worth, I thought this data was eye opening or interesting at the very least.

Best Wishes.

So according to you "GATOFILO" ppl from III world country ...makes them THIRD PPL AS WELL???..I will find interesting response from you!!.
No wonder why the world is, the way it is.... hu!
Gatofilo said…
Friend Griselda, your silly remarks made me laugh out loud. Thanks for that, laughter is always good medicine.

As for your humorous comments: Well of course “the world is the way it is,” how else could it be? Simply stated, “What is is.” But then I suppose you don’t know what is, is, either, do you…

Now, about your question regarding “third world” countries and their people, it’s obvious that if someone “is” from a third world country because he/she happens to live there, that circumstance clearly makes them people from a third world country.

Again, what is is… Comprende?

Thanks for the laughs, best wishes.

Sorry dude.
Griselda said…
Ohh...WooW..Hooahh.. What was that comment about? "the "is" typo?" my apology if that distract you from the main point?
So to the "first" supremacy "wanna be" fellow..of course only in your mind.. THANK YOU for your ignorant comment, cause that made me laugh 2!
but that was a mix feeling u know, between laughter and pity. It is always good to see how the "ism" framework comes up with politics, religion, culture, social articles, etc

BTW...Thnx for the grammar correction, next time use "comprende"S" instead of "comprende"

"here are some statistics from a major paper out there". Hahahahaha. Samuel, you should know that Gato's comments hold no credibility in this blog because of posts such as the one above. This one is the best one I've read in a while though because of how funny the above quoted line is and how egregious the logic behind his post is. I was just about to post something similar to what you did but thanks for taking two minutes out of your day to check the facts and saving me the hassle. Regretfully, Gatofilo blindly believed the facts and just regurgitated them.

The statistics jump out as obviously being false and anyone would check them before posting them IF they had a shred of intelligence and were concerned about their credibility. The two that are supposedly true according to truthorfiction.com, number of Spanish speaking people and number of radio stations are to be expected. Even the one that truthorfiction.com says is mostly true, 95% of warrants for murder are illegal aliens is spun for gain by unscrupulous people such as Gatofilo. The statistic cited says 95% of OUTSTANDING warrants are for illegal aliens and that makes an important and huge difference. 95% of warrants for murder are not for illegal aliens. It's 95% of the ones that police can't serve warrants to that are illegal aliens. Such a high statistic should've raised red flags for anyone but some people just don't care about actual facts.

Gato please learn basic statistics and check the reliability of your citations before posting so that you don't get embarassed again on this post or somewhere else.

Friend Gatofilo, your silly remarks made me laugh out loud. Thanks for that, laughter is always good medicine.

Friend Samuel:

"Sorry Dude"... Sorry about what?

Don't blame the messenger, blame the message. But from the URL you produce, it only states as a caption, "List of Facts and Figures about Illegal Immigration-Mostly Fiction!"

The key word is, "MOSTLY."

So I wonder which statistics are fact, and which are supposedly fiction?

Let play devils advocate and say that only half of the facts presented are accurate, it would still be very scary don't you think?

So, don't be sorry. I'm not.

Best Wishes.
Gatofilo said…
Friend Mauricio:

"Gatofilo blindly believed the facts and just regurgitated them."

The same I said to Samuel is what I can say to you. "Don't blame the messenger, but the message."

You somehow make a huge jump to conclusions that the facts are mine, which is clearly wrong. And believe me, I don't "BLINDLY" believe anything.

But like I said to our mutual friend, Samuel, the key word in the URL that he refers to is "MOSTLY."

So, I repeat to you, which part of the story is fact and which is fiction? I personally found the story eye opening even if only 50% were fact.

I'm sure you'll agree that the statistics stated in that report are indeed scary.

What we need to do is to excercise our soveriegn right to defend the borders of our country against any and all "illegal" entry.

Up to now, illegal immigrants, drug smugglers, terrorists, Etc. have been able to "moon walk" right on in through the pourous and unguarded border.

It's time to fix what's obviously broken. Don't you agree.

Best wishes.

Friend Griselda:

Regarding your Post...

You remind of the immigrant who wrote home saying, "English no learning, Spanish forgotten."

And I see that I was right in assuming that you wouldn't know what is,is. Right?

"Comprende” usted ... or if you prefer, "Comprendes” tu?

Believe me that I struggling to decipher through your sentences, and attempting to understand your exposé of ideas was challenging to say the least.

Griselda dear, while trying to read and decipher through your dreadful spelling, and uncanny sentence structure and verb conjugation, it became quite apparent that you didn't quite get far enough along in your education to learn basic writing skills nor the proper conjugation of verbs.

But take heart, it's never too late to learn and today can be the first day of the rest of our life. Comprende usted?

Best wishes.

Friend Mauricio, I'm finally back and have a little time now to review your post and give it the attention it and you deserve.

What immediately jumps out at you from your comments is precisely what I actually did say in my initial post referring to the L.A. county statistics. If you will check, my concluding comments at that time were, and I quote:

"For what it's worth, I thought this data was eye opening or interesting at the very least."

I'm sure, Mauricio that you concur with me on that initial impression I had of the article in question.

“At the very least,” I believe that, whether mostly fact or fiction, the article did draw attention to a problem we all know needs fixing.

What part of “illegal” don’t some people understand?

I’m glad the post caused you and others to ponder and laugh a little; it did me. And like I said before, laughter is a great medicine.

As someone once said, “Laugh and the world will laugh with you.”

But enough said.

Best wishes.

To all my "Tim's Blog" friends:

It's really comforting to know that you’ve all take such interest in my comments and in my personal views and opinions. It’s important that we all learn from one another, and I’m more than happy to contribute to that process.

Imagine my pleasant surprise when, after being out with friends for most of the day, upon my return I found interesting comments from my Blog friends, Griselda, Samuel and Mauricio.

Although often time and patience consuming, I always attempt to respond asap because I realize that my friends are expecting and looking forward to a quick response to their comments, but also I need to get back to them right away because I don’t want to get behind with my other Internet responsibilities and Blogs that I visit and collaborate with.

At this time, I am simply writing these few lines to you all, because it is important to me that all of my friends realize that I enjoy your interesting and often times humorous comments and frustrations.

I truly enjoy diversity of opinions and thought.

And so friends, I want to thank you all again for taking interest in my humble views and contributions.

Viva la diferencia!

Sorry dude.

I'm still feeling sorry for your naive comment.

You ridiculed yourself by stating that those statistics were from a "major paper"; that's something that you cannot prove, because it's a lie.

Sorry dude.
Gatofilo said…
Friend Samuel:

Thank you for your short note, and although I realize that you are one of my most ardent fans, as such I feel it my obligation to help you correct some of your more egregious errors and failures of judgment.

Friend Samuel, reading your interesting comments I immediately observed that in your excitement to make a point, you prematurely jump the gun and go off half cocked, making disappointedly false or inaccurate conjectures regarding the facts and more importantly, regarding my personal motivation and intentions.

You see, Samuel in your comments you state, “You ridiculed yourself by stating that those statistics were from a "major paper"; that's something that you cannot prove, because it's a lie.”

First of all and what is most uncanny in your comments and in your flawed reasoning regarding what is your own personal definition of what a “major paper” actually is.

Is it the volume of its readership; is it the numbers of distribution outlets, or what?

The paper in question, besides its hardcopy numbers, undeniably has a huge and multi million worldwide Internet readership, as was clearly demonstrated by the fact that even on Tim’s Blog, most of my friends there were familiar with the paper and one of my friends even produced a URL copy of the same.

Now, as far as your insistent questioning regarding my personal involvement in this matter, I simply received a copy (I receive much such material) that I found interesting and so I passed it on for discussion with my friends on Tim’s Blog. Obviously I was correct because as you yourself can see, my decision definitely stimulated much interest and discussion on this Blog.

Continuing on this topic, you make another fatal error of judgment by stating as fact, “that’s something you cannot prove, because it’s a lie.” How can you ascertain stating that something is a lie, when the periodical itself states clearly in the caption of the article in question, the ambiguous word “MOSTLY,” when referencing to fact vs. fiction of that report.

One last but important point I’d like to make, is that you also state in your comments that you’re “feeling sorry for your (obviously alluding to me) naive comment.”

My dear friend Samuel, although I don’t want to seem ungrateful because I really do appreciate your obvious feelings of support for me, you need to realize that “feelings” are simply a subjective and personal matter, that in this instance clearly demonstrate that you possess these very desirable and sensitive human traits.

Perhaps I should feel elated by your caring, thank you.

Well my friend, I believe that I’ve clarified your questions and all the inconclusive issues for you. At the same time, I feel satiisfied that I’ve helped you enough for one session. Accordingly, I now leave you with more than enough on your plate for you to chew on and ruminate for awhile.

Just remember Samuel, if I again can be of further assistance to you in making of you a better and more understanding, sensitive and productive human being, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Best Wishes.

But let’s return to the Blog current topic, "Only in El Salvador." I was again viewing the humorous video and enjoying the memories of my many visits to Latin America.

I reminisced over the pleasurable moments of each trip: The incredibly magestic scenery of the continent; the varied sea foods in Chile; the huge Argentine pampa churrascos; the history of Mesoamerica and feasting at the Mexico City market; pupusas de queso con loroco in Salvador; the nacatamales of Nicaragua; the Andes, Machu Pichu; El Museo de Oro in Peru; Belem at the mouth of the Amazon; oh and the Museo Antropologico of Mexico DF, Etc. The salsas picantes of Guatemala, OMG!

I could go on and on, but I realize that we all have our memories and cherished moments.

Tim's Blog is clearly a "fun" blog with diverse and interesting topics that we all can enjoy with friends regardless of opinions, beliefs, and social and cultural backgrounds.

Personally, I've dined and conversed with harlots and presidents, sultans and servants, from alpha to omega of our human family. And during these interactions, I have found each and everyone to be fascinating in their own unique diversity.

Every individual is a world unto him or her self, and each has a wonderful story to tell and share. All we need to do is to quietly listen and learn. Remember that flies don’t enter into open mouths.

"Only in El Salvador" is one of those priceless accounts..

Many thanks to our host and friend, Tim.

Best Wishes.

Griselda, mi amor, although it's obvious that you've tried to improve and get help, sadly, my dear, your writing skills and grammar continue to be atrocious.

But I’m sure you don’t need to be reminded of your weaknesses, so let's just leave it at that, OK.

Oh, and by the way, to not simply leave you up in the air and wondering, here is a sampling of what I mean by your basic spelling and grammar needs, you write:

Yo quiciera saber quien fué el que te dijo la gran metira que eres un "experto en la retorica y escritura"

Reading this while chuckling, I'm wondering why your interest in my personal life and history. You really want to know, huh?

Then, I wonder where in the world you picked-up the silly notion that someone lied to me, telling me I was an "expert" in writing skills and in rhetorical abilities.

Griselda dear, at least you demonstrate to have a colorful imagination. I would definitely encourage you to take steps to further develop it. You could actually be a poet and don’t know it, a Longfellow.

Oh, one last thing before I go, your comment to me is of course written incorrectly again. Instead of:

Yo quiciera saber quien fué el que te dijo la gran metira que eres un "experto en la retorica y escritura"

You should check the spelling of "Quisiera" and "Mentira," and your use and placement of the parenthesis in your construction is also incorrect.

It's never too late, Griselda.

In this marvelous country you have chosen to live and progress in, you can improve and make a better future for yourself by taking online courses in English grammar and many other subjects.

Education is the key to getting out of the banal and tedious hotel "cleaning lady" and other similar type jobs. Comprendes?

"P.S/I'm sorry Tim, this is my last comment on this!"

Don't you believe one word of this, Tim, our friend Griselda is obviously infatuated with me, and although I do not correspond to her advances, she simply seems unable to let go.

Griselda's seeming frustrations and rage are in reality what in psychological terms is referred to as, "Projection."

Beneath it all, Griselda is a good person, really, and what she needs from us is only a little sympathy, patience and understanding.

This poor and lonely woman reminds of the femme fatale of “Fatal Attraction" notoriety. The things we have to put up with these days via the Internet are truly amazing!

But anyway, Best Wishes, Griselda, and let's hope that this time it will indeed be a final Adios.

Be strong baby I know it hurts, but perhaps you could light some candles to San Antonio and ask for his guidance and support.

But above all, try and remember that “time heals.”

P.S. Oh, and Griselda, one of those online universities I mentioned is named Phoenix University Online. Look them up, OK; it can only do you good.

Have a great rest of your life.

Besitos.

AND....NO HUMAN BEING IS ILLEGAL, para variar el asunto!!!!
Gatofilo said…
Our friend John again makes known his confusion by stating:

"AND....NO HUMAN BEING IS ILLEGAL, para variar el asunto!!!!"

===================================

For your information, John:

Following is the official definition of "illegal." Hope it clarifies your confusion.

Main Entry: 1il·le·gal
Pronunciation: \(ˌ)i(l)-ˈlē-gəl\
Function: adjective
Etymology: Middle French or Medieval Latin; Middle French illegal, from Medieval Latin illegalis, from Latin in- + legalis legal
Date: 1538
: not according to or authorized by law : unlawful, illicit; also : not sanctioned by official rules

So, there you have it, John, if you enter another country "unauthorized" "unlawfully""illicitly" or "not sanctioned by official rules," you, my friend, are an "illegal alien."

Oh, and if they happen to catch you there "illegally", they'll rightfully kick your "illegal" ass out and send you back home were you "legally" belong.

Hope this helps straighten out your confusion, John.

Best Wishes.
