Another Bush contributor to be ambassador to El Salvador

The US White House announced the nomination of a new ambassador to El Salvador:
The President intends to nominate Charles L. Glazer, of Connecticut, to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Republic of El Salvador. Mr. Glazer currently works as President and Chief Executive Officer of C.L. Glazer & Company, Incorporated. Prior to this, he served as Senior Vice President and Director of Jefferies & Company. Earlier in his career, he served as Senior Vice President of Blyth, Eastman, Dillion & Company, Incorporated. Mr. Glazer received his bachelor's degree from the University of Virginia.

Glazer is a member of the Republican National Committee and a major Bush fundraiser. In 2004, Glazer raised more than $200,000 for the re-election campaign of President Bush.

The appointment of major campaign contributors to ambassador positions is a time-honored tradition of both US political parties. The current ambassador to El Salvador, H. Douglas Barclay, donated along with members of his immediate family, more that $200,000 to Republican political campaigns between 2000 and 2004.

Ooooooh snaps. So US's long standing tradition of direct political intervention into national matters continues (i.e. influencing elections, etc.).

Hmmm, wonder if he even knew where to find El Salvador on a map before this nomination? Just another perfect of case of "who you know" not "what you know" in these great United States!

Please provide evidence that Foreign Service careerists at State intervene less than straight political apointees.

Good luck, by the way.

Either way visitador, interfering to the point that they basically rig the elections in favor of the party that they support is a violation to a country's sovereignity, it's democratic process. Their practices of old (seriously, whoever doesn't want to admit that US has been one of Latin America's greatest enemies is blind. They've been performing the dual role of saint and devil all these years, and continue to do so):

http://www.counterpunch.org/deraymond03262004.html

http://www.counterpunch.org/farrell04052004.html

And if anyone dares defy my claims because of my sources "slanted" perspective, then you must be a hypocrite, because there are much more objective media that backs my claims, and national history/experience just cements this as a fact. If you Visitador don't rebuke this kind of practices, then what are you doing here in the first place? Anyone who condones this type of behavior and doesn't admit that ARENA's regime has been a failure, and the puppet governments (dictatorship) have done nothing to staunch the country's growth and lead to years of social unrest should be removed. Perhaps this way this country could progress. I mean being independant since 1821, and being under the control of a destructive/puppet government (so unstable and corrupt that even between the animals on power they've been toppling one ruler over the other, all thanks to the retrograde elites that have only cared for their own pockets) for more than 100 years has lead to what we are. It is past our due, if our government had matured, that by now we would've turned into a Singapur. Look what 50 years of PAP power has made out of that nation. An effective nation, a just nation that from day one comprehended that the well-being and productiveness of a nation comes from the well-being of it's people. This government has never been responsible to us, and US interventions are something that SHOULD STOP HAPPENING. They should grow up from their Cold War mentalilty and finally let us pursue our DESERVED path to betterness.

I'm not sure who Glazer is, but I know that Barclay past this, had no previous diplomatic experience, he was just a Bush supporter. Come on... I want Robert White back, haha. I believe that in all these years, he was probably the only figure to show some cocern about our country's status. Or at the very least be honest about it.

El Salvador could benefit so much from an honest, well-intentioned ambassador. Enough with the unilateral lack of diplomacy. How about a relationship that promotes the wellbeing of all Salvadorans and changes the image of gringos in El Salvador from stupid bullies to compassionate friends.

Operation Condor
Iran-Contra Affairs
Operation Iraqi Liberation (OIL, get it?)
Vietnam
"The Salvador Option"
Death Squads in Central America
Osama Bin Laden
Manuel Noriega

Those to me are the most resounding legacy that the US has had to the world. But not even its own citizens have been saved from transgressions:

Project MKULTRA
Agent Orange
Tuskegee syphilis study
pardoned Nazi scientists
witch hunts

And many others. I do wonder how the people of the United States let it's nation behave so bad. Jesus, I'm of the belief that if one doesn't mess with anyone, the amount of enemies you'll have will actually be very low. Anti-USA sentinemnts are widespread and current actions only strengthening them. I remember seeing CNN recently, and there were talking about Islam extremist in UK, and how they were preaching killing westerners in a western country, the majority of them were YOUNG PEOPLE. The new generation of alqaeda or whatever, that is what a strongarming US policy in the middle east is doing, just manufacturing new generations of enemies. A pity.
I also remember one of the last legistlations having to do with the minimum wage, how the democrats were trying to rise it, but then the republicans pull an ARENA, and make a combo, to eliminate taxes to small states (if combo not accepted, bill not passed). Something like that. Doesn't the people's nation feel betrayed on so many issues? I believe that both El Salvador and US people have much work to do to fix their immoral goverments. And to think I'm a citizen of both places... double duty for me. And I'm sure that appointing another Bush supporter to intefere on this country's business is not a step to the better. *sigh* We could all learn from Singapur...

Perhaps if you did some research on Charles Glazer you would see that there is no mention anywhere of his "foreign service career". His career has been in major US industry and Republican Party support and communications. No background in Latin America. Again, who you know, not what you know. Careerists in the foregin service are a completely different group, they are not the individuals given high level positions in thanks for their contributions.
